Dene Street Apartments are owned and run by the Knowles family, a local family which has carefully built these impressive homes in an ideal position a short and level walk from the centre of Hexham.

The delightful views coupled with landscaped grounds, ample parking make the Apartments an attractive proposition for people of all ages who are looking to rent within comfortable walking distance of Hexham's historic market place.

A seasoned builder with several farm conversions under his belt, David Knowles was always on the look out for new and interesting building projects. In 1991 David purchased 6 acres of land off Dene Street in Hexham. “I was standing on the bank side with the engineer and I thought, what a lovely view!” David’s initial vision was to build a nursing home, but when he sat down with the architect this vision expanded to include an EMI unit and an apartment complex. It took nearly twenty years for the vision to fully become reality. After successfully running the nursing home for three years with his wife, Susan, they decided to sell the nursing home and EMI unit to focus on the apartments and to continue developing properties in and around Northumberland.

Susan now manages the Apartments full time along with accommodations manager Jenny Woodman. Working alongside Susan and Jenny are Michael Smith, the Caretaker and Gardener who keeps all the grounds and Val Moffatt who maintains the cleanliness of the communal areas.

Built by the Knowles family, Dene Street Apartments is home to forty-one apartments, six bungalows, two flats and two houses. It is still run by the Knowles family. Sons Alistair and Jonathan, who with father David, were responsible for the construction, still come in from time to time to make repairs and improvements to the buildings.
